I’ll state right up front I think the idea of non-matching bridesmaid dresses rocks…
I think this for a few different reasons;
Firstly; we women are all different shapes and sizes, all beautiful but different, and certain styles and shapes obviously suit certain body types better than others. So why force your girls to wear unflattering styles when then can wear a style that they look great in and feel great in. This can only serve make your overall look of your wedding better and more beautiful!
Secondly; It adds a point of interest. The various shapes, styles, colours, textures, fabrics and embellishments make for an interesting and visually exciting viewing experience for your audience. I like to think of the whole wedding as a piece of art, each aspect thoughtfully placed for the aesthetic pleasure of the viewer, from your colour palettes to your decorations to all the little details finer details. So I think the idea of thoughtfully chosen dresses within the range of your overall style, be it vintage or modern, cocktail or boho, serve to add a beautiful complexity that can be so eye catching and interesting.
Thirdly; I think its an opportunity to accentuate your colour palette. The most beautiful weddings are such because they had a thoughtful and skillful use of theme colours. These colours should run throughout your entire day, from the invitations, to the decorations, to the attire, to accessories, and into all the smaller details. This adds up to a cohesive, stylish, and sophisticated affair. Rather than selecting one monochromatic theme colour, I think a more beautiful option is a range of shades within one or two theme colours.

Here are some beautiful shots Averil took of the roses from Claire and Stuart’s Wedding. The roses are called ‘something special’ (the mocha-pink one) and metalina (the coffee one).
Also some shots of me hard at work fussing over petal placement and even colour distribution…. only the best for my brides.

Here are our studio pictures of Lili and Cero’s wedding blooms.
I loved the look of the soft ruffly green geranium foliage cuff on Lili’s Bouquet. The pink roses, called sweet akito were so perfectly shaped. The whole bouquet smelt amazing between the sweet citrusy geranium foliage and the roses. Yummy!
The bridesmaid’s bouquets included more roses, geranium and also freesia – only adding to the amazing scent. They were a pleasure to create!
Corsages to compliment the bouquets with all the above blooms plus grass loop detail.
The Flower girl Kissing Ball, with pink and white spray roses, with a pink satin handle. The little girl looked so adorable carrying this in her little white and pink dress and shiny shoes! Too cute!
The whole wedding was pink, pink and more pink! From the dresses to the flowers to all the little details. Lili was a very girly girl and so lovely consult with. She looked gorgeous on the day as you can see in the below photos from Shine Studio.

So the vintage wedding trend has been in for a long while and it seems to be getting more and more beautiful I am so enjoying the return to natural feminine details and the break away from really heavily manicured florals.
The 1920′s look is particularly beautiful, seen in bouquets that look freshly plucked from the garden, dresses with less poof and more drape, and some of the most stunning hair accessories for brides and maids, that nod to the flapper headbands of the roaring 20′s.
These are some of my favourites that have me drooling…
Lo Boheme are the cremede la creme when it comes to hair accessories, their amazing catalogue is viewable at www.loboheme.com
